Hmmm...
"Use me when and where needed and I''ll do you a lot of good."
Handmade in the Texas Panhandle,
this old paddle was introduced into the family around 1970.
You know, when it was still legal to beat your children.
Ya think it would work on husbands???
Mine's kinda late with my ice cream....
Gotta train 'em right:@) Ma had one of those when we were growing up, wonder what happened to it?
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I remember these paddles in school. Not that they were ever used on moi!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in the south back in the sixties- early seventies and these could be seen on just about every teachers desk. Translated means there usually were only 1 or 2 students that would need extra attention! That being said I think here in the south the rolling pin also known as the husband beater is popular.
ReplyDeleteha ha! too cute!
ReplyDeleteI think it would make a great husband beater! I say TRY IT OUT-especially if the ice cream was melty when he got home- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh...you crack me up! this looks as if the person who it might have had to be used on was the one who carved the words...kind of like my dad making me go sit on the edge of the tub until he was ready to come bust my butt..he took a long time to get there...funny stuff!
ReplyDeleteThis is funny! I remember when they paddled in school. I was never paddled.:) I don't know if they should have taken them out of the schools. Let me know if it works on hubby. LOL
ReplyDeleteOh, flashbacks of Catholic school! That paddle practically had my name on it!
ReplyDeleteI say..if he shows up with vanilla when you, clearly stated mint chocolate chip...the paddle should show up.
ReplyDelete"Fear is the best motivator "..I think that was a famous Eleanor Roosevelt quote.
Gotcha! Xo
The Other Tina Na Na
Tina,
ReplyDeletethat sue looks like it could be painful, not that I would know!
As for the husband, you didn't scare him off with that big paddle, did ya?
Thanks for the sweet comments on our new little addition!
Rebecca
I hope you have that ice cream by now :)
ReplyDeleteI'm giving you the Rockin' Blogger Award Tina! Come by and get it any time you want. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember fear of the paddle - it kept me in line! Enjoy that ice cream on this hot day...

Oh, how cute is that! I'm a teacher and have been looking for one of those! (NOT for school!!!!), but for my collection of old school memorabilia. I wouldn't even THINK about bringing it anywhere near school!
ReplyDeleteBut a man beater, now that's an idea!
Patti
It's cute to have around just in case needed. 1970 that's an antique. Now I feel old. Thanks for stopping by with your wonderful comment. Have a great week, hope your husband got the ice cream.
ReplyDeleteJody
Ha ha we had 2 of those when I was a kid. I think it would work on a husband, but he might not ever bring you ice cream again.
ReplyDeletehee hee!!! I'm sure it would!!! In our our school they had a yard ruler!!!!
ReplyDeleteSharon
Ha! My husband was paddled in school.
ReplyDeleteYou mean, it's illegal???
ReplyDeletehahaha...
it's just a touch larger than the wooden spoon my mom wielded!
ReplyDeleteI remember my parents having to sign a form every year stating whether or not they would give the principal permission to paddle. CRRRRAAAAZZZZYYY!!! I was a good girl, and of course my parents never allowed it, but wow times have changed.
ReplyDeleteMy ex husband still has his paddle that his dad had made for him and his brother. With holes drilled in it for extra 'swoosh'!
Love this. I want to make one of those just for fun even though my kids are grown. They'd find it hilarious because the paddle I kept and used now and again did not do anything but make them laugh. They love to tell the stories of my paddling inadequacies to this day. I needed a "board of education", for sure.
ReplyDeleteLiz
Apply the Board of Education to the "Seat of Knowledge" regularly :) Visiting from Freakin' Awesome Friday!
ReplyDeleteSo so badly want to have this, my five would immediately improve LOL
ReplyDeleteLove it!
